How come the 99-01 A6s arent selling worth a damn on Ebay and dealerships?
I have been watching A6s mostly 99-01 and I hardly see any on Ebay that meet the reserve case in point there was a 01 2.7t with 72k that ended at 9200? WTF even an accord will go for more. Any way I called the dealer he was willing to take 13k for it. While I was at the dealership I overheard a saleman reffering to the left over 98-02 A6s as boat anchors? why is that so? a comprible BMW 528 wil go for way more than that.
What is the deal with the A6 and market price for them?

most of those cars are out of warranty and unless they are CPO
They will sit. I have seen a nice 01 B5 S4 at the dealer for $19k. It has 79k miles and will most likely need a timing belt, and other repairs to make the car reliable. So if you add the cost of those repairs to the asking price you may be talking low 20's for the car. JimR was more accurate and to the point.

It's great if you want a deal, picked up my 99' avant quattro for 13,300 Canadian but a little high on the mileage but everything checked out in the inspection I got for it. Plus you look great driving it.

You hit the nail on the head.....
Audi's (i like them), when they get on in miles are quite costly and that effects used values. If you can work on them fine, but if your someone who has to go to the dealer then get your check book out.
I think MB's are worse then Audis as far as maintenance cost but the BMW's I've had were fairly inexpensive.

Because the ARE boat anchors?!
No offense, but the 99-01 A6s don't compare favorably to the other cars that are available in the marketplace today, both new and used. Lump onto that the inferior position Audi holds relative to the other German makes, as well as some of the quality problems those early year C5's had, and it isn't hard to see why they're a tough sell right now.
Heck, I paid $49k for a loaded 4.2 sport about 5 months ago that I probably couldn't sell for $37k right now if I wanted to. Good thing I have no intention of selling, but I have no illusions about Audi resale value. It ain't great.

Would your 23k for a new car still be better than a used Audi for the same price?
One of the reasons I bought my '01 is that I couldn't find a new car that I liked for that price. No regrets.

If you ask me, you get a hell of a lot of car for the money!
And, since ours was bought to serve as just a "family car" / wife's commuter, get up & go wasn't at the top of my priority list. Our '99 Avant surpasses all of my expectations so far, except 2.8 power. No biggie.
