Default Heavy Duty Cooling system, etc.

2000 Audi A6 2.4l

Folks, I'll appreciated answers to the following:

1. What does "Heavy Duty Cooling System" stands for in 2000 Audi A6? Special Components?

2. It is really hot here. What is max. safe coolant temperature for the gas engine? 110C? 120C? higher?

3. At what coolant temperature the engine may go into EPC mode?

3. For the secondary, electric cooling fan:

- is it controlled (on/off) by A/C needs or engine coolant temp? Or both?
- Should it always turn on when I/C is on?
- Does it also work as "after run" fan?
- Does it have variable speed?

Thanks ALL!

re: #3

The auxillary fans are controlled by the
fan control unit. If it comes on every time
the ignition is engaged, even when the car is "cold," the controller is dead or
insane and in the "fail-safe"
mode. It needs to be fixed.

Capt Ron;

Thanks for your input. My second-hand 2000 A6 has only two fans, one operated by the engine, another one - electric. This second electric fan has never run though it is very hot. No dealers, Audi techs, or scan tools here in Armenia - so I am trying to figure it out via the Forum's experience. That's why all those questions - and I need answers and help from the audience.

Best,

Andrew

Default I would suggest

you invest in the VAG-COM software and cable, find an old laptop to hook it up to, and the Bently repair manual. I do not think it is possible to work on this car without hooking into the computer to see what is wrong.

http://www.ross-tech.com/</a
