Default goodbye to all

Sorry to say after nearly 7 months and 11000 miles of headaches and problems with my 3.0 asn, I'm leaving audi. Many thanks for all your efforts, help and advice, but unfortunately I cannot justify the costs of a rebuild on my 125k miles, 12 year old v6.

i dont know what an ASN is but your comments unfortunately make sense. if you havenet got access or means to drop a reasonably priced motor in and you cant do a lot of work yourself, you dont have man options. i work omn mine as a hoby , but if it got ridiculously expensive id do the same.

The ASN "Euro version 3.0" is the pre AVK 3.0 we all know and love with all of our hearts here in the America's

It is unfortunate. In Europe it's not unusual or car-abandoning expensive to change out to a new motor…the VAT for a new car really makes you think about keeping your old one with a new engine.

You have a great platform but the worst motor. Don't knock Audis (certainly not C5) because of the 3.0 , those are terrible engines. 2.8 and 4.2 is bulletproof, 2.7t is awesome though high maintenance. I currently have all 3 in the shape of an A6 Avant, S6 Avant and Allroad. C5 FTW !

He has the ASN first gen "Euro" 3.0 not the AVK 3.0 and although I will agree that the 02 and some 03's had more problems in the cam area the 04/05's primarily did not as much and more A4's did sport the engine too.

Boy I sure hope I'm not second rated with my 04 3.0 that has been pretty dam good to me and sure knocked the snot out of the 01 2.8 I had, way too many stigmas from members who have never owned one.

Second and third that. I have two AVK 3.0's, a 3.2 and a 1.8 sitting in the driveway. One AVK has 203K on it and I plan to run that until however long it lasts. The other is 90K. The 1.8 is 103K.

By any rational decision, I should have never purchased any of them. My first Audi was a 98 A6 Avant with a 2.8. I bought it to replace my Subaru Outback which blew head gaskets (no surprise there). I had never driven an Audi before. In fact, the only experience I had had with Audi's was my co-worker who was suing Audi because his airbag deployed while at a dead stop at a traffic light injuring he and his wife, and my nephew who bought an Audi as his first car and I got to hear about how my brother-in-law and he re-built the damn thing every weekend. I was well aware of Beamers, but had seen enough of them on the side of the road, and off the road in snow, that I knew I'd never buy one. I simply had not even been aware of Audi before that.

That said, I loved the way the 98 drove (it was the first German car I had ever owned) but I spent as much on repairs in 2.5 years on that as I did on the purchase price. Little did I know that the dumb thing had been under water at some point. One thing after another.

That's when I cultivated a relationship with a good independent mechanic and bought VCDS and started taking care of the 'small' things that were costing me a fortune. My next 3.0 now has 203K on it and is going to get its third timing belt next week. Sure the cams clatter a bit when I start up, but no worse than my wife's B6 3.0 with 90K on it.

Hope you find what you are looking for and best of luck
