FRIDAY POLL: What is the longest (or best) roadtrip you've taken, how long, was it in your A6?
#2
2,200 miles, 14 states, 2 overnight stops from TX to NH.
It was in my Trooper (5-speed, 4x4), max possible speed was about 85 on downhill with tailwind.
Much better than the trip I made in the Stealth TT (in "arrest me" red) when I kept getting pulled over by the staties just so they could check out the car.

Haven't had a chance to take a real road trip, but...
After installing my H&Rs, I took a test drive from Westchester Co. to Rockland Co to Orange Co. then back to Rockland, to Westchester to the Bronx into lower Manhattan back up to the Bronx and the home in Westchester. Took a few hours plus was also late at night to minimal traffic on the roads. Was great, but not the joy of a real road trip.

Destination: Dayton
Drove up from Atlanta to Dayton with a co-pilot to meet up with some good friends. Poker, movies, eating, hanging out! We even stopped at the apartment complex his Mom manages for cookies and speed warnings from Mom.
On the way back, we detoured to Indiana for some riverboat casino action (won a couple of hundred bucks at the craps tables, then got back on the road).
Around 1600 miles, round trip.

Also, on the first leg up to Jasper, we averaged 82mph with some construction delays, etc. Empty roads, mountain passes, great views. Here is a pic of a typical road we traveled. I am ready to go again!

When I picked up my new to me '02 S6 in Hartford CT...
and drove it back home to California. Mostly Hwy 80 and just a tick over 3100 miles. Took about 38 hours of driving time with the necessary stops. This was in January and started out with the OEM conti sports on the car. Made a stop in South Bend IN at Tire Rack and purchased some "more appropriate" tires for the drive west. Drove "most excellently Ted" hence my calling it the Teutonic missle. Not bad for a grocery getter.
