Dimming Rear View Mirror
OK, on the next issue.
The dimming interior rear view mirror is bad. Does not dim and has a big yellow spot that moves depending on the temperature.
Ebay has lots of mirrors they claim are compatible, but it is hard to tell.
Does anyone know what years would be directly plug and play?
What about A4 and various VW mirrors?
Should I just get a new aftermarket one and wire it up?

I bought a used one for my S6 3-4 years ago and it works fine.

Does the mount stay on the windshield, or do you have to pull it off and re-glue the new mirror mount on?
I will double check the part number but it looks like there are a few on car-parts.com at decent prices.

Mount stays on windshield unless you do it wrong.

Oh, I think you'll do all right. Look at the new/used one and you'll even see which way to twist to take the old one off.

The mirror showed up and looks great (It is from an 2002).
Except it has the compass.
So, my question is, is this mirror plug-and-play with the non-compass mirror in a 2000?
I found lots of references that it is plug and play in the years where it was an option (2001/2002 and on) but nothing about retrofitting to an earlier car (2000)?

if the electrical connector fits just plug it and go
replaced mine yesterday
took trim off above mirror and disconnected electrically
turn base 90 degrees counter clockwise and remove
Got mine at the wreckers .. the plastic decorative pieces above the mirror are a litle different but no big deal , it plugged right in .
My mirror looked fine but was always in DARK mode , even during the day . new one works great.

You might have to calibrate the compass as well as set it for the magnetic region of the country you're in. Should be instructions in your owners manual or you can google them.
