The 2.7 is an extremely reliable engine in the C5. Problems are few and far between.

maybe if you hold it at 50mph or so? The EPA rating on my '01 was 17 city/26 hwy IIRC, maybe 25.

I've never topped 26.5 mpg on a pure highway trip, usually averaging about 65, I'm shocked to hear anyone got near 30 without almost hypermiling it.

Default This was on a tript to Vegas from Chino three yrs ago. Hit 33+. Trip back,

got about 31 and digits. I've always done well on mpg, rarely below 65, mostly 70. I'm going strickly by how much gas it takes to fill it back up. Under my wife's watchful eyes, I only got away with one triple digit run. Tires properly inflated, and I drive pretty smooth according to my harshest critic.

The problem with the 2.7 and any other motor can be attributed to chips, "shadetree engineering,' and so on. Left alone, you will have a very reliable package.

They have taller gearing than the '01 I'm pretty sure, don't they?

I can run on cruise control at 60mph and not top 27 in my '01 ... interesting.

I think this time around I want to stick with a NA motor.

so my understanding is that all s6/rs6/a6 4.2 all have the same flares/side ckirts etc correct?
and they all have dual exhaust

That was the '99, indeedy.Keep in mind, the long road to LV does not involve any stops or slowdowns, huge factor.

Based on what? Experience or hearsay? I have a 2.7T; it's 9 1/2 years old (112k miles) and runs great. Very strong performance. Very durable and has been trouble free for the most part. I would get another 2.7T with no hesitation whatsoever.
