differences thru the years 2.8 models

I think the earlier years are better. Drive by cable, less problems with cats, earlier cars had more standard features. Our 1999 is a light year better than my sister in law's 2001.

I loved my 99....
until I got to drive a 4.2. The 2.8 provides "decent" performance, but if going fast and quick is your goal, try a 2.7t or 4.2. The 2.8 is pretty reliable, but then again, I've had minimal problems with the 4.2 as well. Whichever one you choose, have a qualified tech with a VAG-COM check it out first. 2.8 can achieve low 30's mpg on a long trip, but, again, my 4.2 can just about hit that as well if you can find the intestinal fortitude to keep your foot out of it.
Hope that helps, enjoy.
