I think the earlier years are better. Drive by cable, less problems with cats, earlier cars had more standard features. Our 1999 is a light year better than my sister in law's 2001.

Please post in the correct location in the thread. This sounds like a question for me or Kris, but it appears as a response to the original post. Have you tried threaded view?

Default I loved my 99....

until I got to drive a 4.2. The 2.8 provides "decent" performance, but if going fast and quick is your goal, try a 2.7t or 4.2. The 2.8 is pretty reliable, but then again, I've had minimal problems with the 4.2 as well. Whichever one you choose, have a qualified tech with a VAG-COM check it out first. 2.8 can achieve low 30's mpg on a long trip, but, again, my 4.2 can just about hit that as well if you can find the intestinal fortitude to keep your foot out of it.
Hope that helps, enjoy.

2.7tt is not a motor I am a fan of I want something reliable.. I love the 4.2 and dont mind the fuel but last time I searched about them the tranny is the weak point.. dont want to get into a car and have to deal with that
