Default Cigarette Smell

I have re-inherited my A6 after 2 years. During this time the driver and his wife both smoked in the car.

Since having it back, I have done the usual detailing, micron filter replacement and ionizing stuff to get rid of the Cigarette smell. Once all the cleaning chemical smell evaporated, the nicotine smell re-surfaced. It is so bad that one can get a headache within 10 minutes of being in the car.

In this winter weather, I just do not have the luxury of leaving the car in the sun with all the windows open - somehow I feel even that may not help.

It is like your nose is in the ash tray full of cigarette butts.

Does any one know of a way to eliminate this nuisance?

Default Cigarette Smell is forever. :-(

You can try airing out, detailing, air fresheners, but it will always be there. Why people smoke in their cars is beyond comprehension.

Default I think the only way to get the smell out is to have all the windows

open frequently. My old man is a smoker and sometimes I drive his car. What I do is have the windows open before I drive. The air refresheners are good but not good for you either. Fresh air is the only way, I think.

Default Sorry to hear. Have you tried cleaning the headliner thoroughly? That is frequently the

biggest source of lingering cigarette stench. After that, a good shampooing of the carpets can help....but as 4Driver$ notes, cigarette smell is forever.

Default Put one of these under the seat. Replace it as needed.

Default Think that'll work for the PAINT SMELL the body shop soaked into my carpet?

Probably make them do a steam clean and detail job to get the smell out.

They also put tons of greasy fingerprints into my cloth headliner.... very hard to get out without "pilling" the weave.

German Auto Body in Santa Clara has gone a bit downhill....

Every rental car I've had smells awful. Never buy a used rental... or a car sight/smell unsmelled.

Default My friend uses this in the shop. Test it on a hidden spot. For fingerprints and carpet stains it is
