Default CEL code P0118 - Engine coolant temperature circuit, high input

My gauge seems to be working correctly, gets to about the halfway point in about 10-15 min. on a 45 degree morning. The CEL has come on, gone off, come on again, and now is off again. I only checked the code the 1st time around. I had trouble starting the car one time, it would crank but not fully start, had to try cranking a few times. But it's working like nothing was ever wrong right now.

Is that error code a serious deal? I need to go to make a 400 mile trip on Thursday, 800 miles total if you count coming back. Think I'll be able to make it or should I get a check up before then?

Hello!!!

I have an Audi A6 2.7 biturbo year 2000 and when i shut the car off the fans are still running!! after 10 min they shut off! I replaced the temp sensor g62 but after a short moment the check engine light comes on again and say g62 high output!! What could it be???
Maybe Fan Module???

explain. I dont see the logic. If the t-stat failed closed, he block might overheat, but the radiator (where fans are) would be cold. if it failed open, the car would run cooler.

So how is it the t-stat?
