Can't Login To ABS Controller
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/87789/100_0243.jpg"></center><p>My '98 A6 has Electronic stabilization program (ESP 5.3). I bled all my calipers and then went to pump out the hydraulic pump for ESP using my VAG-COM. However, when I tried to Login in the ABS controller (access code 40168), I received error message: "Login Code Not Accepted by Controller." I tried several time, each time turning the ignition off for several minutes.
I re-checked the ROSS-TECH site for the VAG-COM's funcionality and it shows that logining in to controllers is included. I have also re-read my AUDI tech CD several times and am confident I'm not missing anything.
Has anyone else had this problem with VAG-COM? Is my ABS controller possessed? How will I complete bleeding my brakes without the (expensive) help from the local Audi dealership?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Your car does not have ESP
In the ABS Controller, the VAG-COM shows
Component: ABS/EDS 5.3 QUATTRO D31
Straight from the AUDI CD are the instructions:
Bleeding brake system with ESP Bosch 5.3 Page 47-40 .
Bleeding brake system with ESP Bosch 5.7 Page 47-50 .
There is no other choice (eg - bleeding brake system without ESP). Please help.

What does EDS stand for then? And is not 5.3 refering to the Bosch 5.3 ESP?
I am starting to doubt my car has it as there is no ESP button on the dash.

Re: Can't Login To ABS Controller
Okay, i found what EDS stands for:
The Quattro uses EDS (Elektronische Differentialsperre = Electronic Differential Lock) to effectively prevent wheel spin at speeds up to about 25 mph. EDS uses the ABS to brake slipping wheels. At speeds above 25mph the Torsen differential makes for superior traction control, which works purely mechanically.
I don't have ESP... so my brake bleed job is already done! Too bad my Mintex red box brake pads are already squealing (2,000 kms?) like a stuck pig.
