Default can or can you not program one new key?

Hi all!
I have read various posts on here about programing a new fob to your car. Well i believe my key is under the new paver patio we put in last week. Anyhoo.... I was pressed for time and stopped at the dealer (with my other car) and picked up a new cut key/fob in one day for only $152.00. Not too bad and was also plesantly surprised when when the dealer was wrong (and you guys were right) that the 2K A6 does not have an emmoblizer on it, so the new key starts the car!!!! But the BIG question.......is there a way to program the key so the fob controls work for the car? I have tried a half dozen things mentioned in various posts, and have also seen somewhere on here that you must go to the dealer to have a single key programed. I will get to a lock smith soon for a second key, but until then, can it be programed or not? MUCH thanks in advance!!!!!!

As far as I know, you need VCDS or a dealer to program it.
If you have another key, then you should be able to from what I understand (never tried it).

Are you sure that the new key fob battery is even good?

Oh, and to answer the question on programing, no you do not need the stealer to program the fob for non immobilizer functions "lucky you" and yes you can program the lock functions by vagcom or the relearn procedures you probably have read in your search the forums finds

I never thought about the battery being bad, I'll check that and that I got a good transmitting fob as well. As for the learn/ relearn, I have tried the holding the unlock button in while the key is in the on position, pressing the unlock then using the key in the door, and key in the door and press unlock on the door card, none of which seemed to work. Is there a master program pattern that needs to be done before these "relearn" resets work? Anyway, I'll check that the unit works first and go from there. Thanks!

The method I seem to recall was with one key in the ignition (key on, engine off), then working the key to be programmed in the door lock.

To adapt not relearn you must have vagcom or vcds, look at post #5 in this link https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-...-vcds-2835177/

Ok I get it now. Big question, am I better off paying the dealer (actually my Audi Specialist) $ for one time help or $$$ for the software and cables? Think its time for a phone call! Thank you so much for your help! If you find yourself in the Milwaukee area, I owe you a coctail!

Not worth buying vcds, unless you plan on needing it for more than just programming a key fob... You should be able to find someone in your area with vcds that's willing to do it for a beer or something.
Heck, if you weren't 70 miles away from me, I would do it.
