I have found a '99 A6 2.8 that I want to buy. I am having a mechanic check it out tomorrow or Saturday and want to be able to tell him what to look out for. The car has the Bose, a sunroof, cd-changer, heated front and rear seats, and not sure what all else. Can anyone give me a few ideas of things to tell the mechanic to look for?

Also, I am having the dealer put new tires on the car. What is the widest tire that I can put on the 16" wheel?

One last (stupid) question....what is the button above the trunk release button that has the little red light in it?

The car has 60,000 miles so I know I need to do the timing belt as soon as I buy it.

(in case you leave a pet locked in the car or something)- I'll let the mechanics speak to what to look for under the hood, but there was a thread a day or two back on what to look for on delivery of a new car- a lot of it applies, such as waves in the paint showing possible damage repair, full tool kit (Audi wheels are a %^&*# to get off without the right tools), etc. Good luck, and let us know how it works out for you.

where the spare lives, is the build list of everything that is on the car. That's the only sure way to know what options the car has.

Have had it since 30K miles, and it is under Audi Assured 100K warranty. Enjoy your ride.

I am getting the car (if it checks out with the mechanic today) for less than $22,000. The paint isn't great on the hood, but I will buff out what I can until I decide to get it painted.

How do you go about getting a car Audi Assured? Do you have to buy it from an Audi dealer that way or can you take your car to the dealer and pay a fee and get it assured?

BTW, nice wheels.

Check with the dealer, I think the new style belts have a recommended change interval of 90K
