Burning smell when car is coming up to temp
For some reason my car has a burning smell when its coming up to operating temp. You can smell it when sitting at a stop light. Once its up to operating temp (coolant) I don't smell it nearly as bad. Checked under the hood and all belt covers look fine, oil level fine, coolant level ok. Cant seem to pinpoint the area that this may be coming from. Any help out there?

mine was doing the same thing. It was the driver side rear cam plug. oil was dripping onto the cat. You may have to move the coolant resevoir to see the leak onto the cat.

I've been driving mine with that leak for years.

You need this:
http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-C5_A6-...Gasket/ES3181/
First, search for this part on the back of your cylinder head. On driver's side, you may need to unscrew the expansion reservoir. Then, rub your fingers around it to feel any leak. If you find oil around this plug, this is your problem. Oil leaks from this plug and drips exactly on your exhaust pipe. Then, when the pipe gets hot, the oil begins to burn and this is what you smell.
I learnt a good one here in this forum: This plug protrudes from the cylinder head. Stab vertically (parallel to the cylinder head wall) downwards a small screw driver to it using a small hammer or so and then pull until completely off. Easy fix in a few minutes. Slide the new one in with your fingers. No force needed.
But check for other leaks from other seals and check if you do not have oil around your spark plugs. Remove the wires and look. If so, you need a cover gasket replacement too.
