best roof rack for 2001 a6
I have recently bought a 2001 a6 and am looking to put a roof rack for snowboards on. the car doesnt have the factory rack on it, will i need one? i have seen a rack called the q tower that doesnt need it but they dont have one for my year? any sugestions?

Both Yakima and Thule make racks that will work on your car, search your local Craigslist for a second hand model as it'll be way cheaper. Don't worry too much what vehicle the add says the rack is for, as long as it has 48" crossbars the rack can be adapted to fit as only the interchangeable connection clips (called Q-Clips by Yakima and AeroFeet by Thule) are vehicle specific.
I use a Yakima rack + PocketRocket box for ski and camping trips in my 2000 4.2L. I bought the box when I got the Audi last year, however the base rack is the same one that I bought about 9 years ago for my '91 VW Corrado (and there's obviously a small difference in size between a Corrado and an A6). It's also done duty on a B3 Passat before jumping over to the A6. In each case it was a simple job of switching out the Q-Clips and re-spacing the towers to adapt to the different roof widths of those vehicles. IIRC I paid about $40 for a set of the A6 Q-Clips off eBay to set the rack up for the Audi.

really old post and parting out my 2000 Audi A6. I have the factory roof rack for sale $150 but you pay for shipping from 60503.

This guy is saying Thule makes a quality rack, I know this one is for a bike, but they most likly have one that fits your needs.
