I just bought a pair of these for my 2000 A6Q 2.7T:

I paid about $127 for the pair from Amazon.

Thanks georgeb944. I am not sure my car could use the same. Going by the part no. and its shape, it looks very different. Mine has a "prong" or inverted "U" for lack of better word right now- where it connects to lower control arm. I appreciate you looking for it though.

Seems like Hans Auto seems to have them for around $70 a piece. But they are not OEM and not knowing much about proper cross ref to other manufacturers' shocks, I am inclined to look for OEM.

ECStuning has them but they want more than I want to pay... .. isn't it how it is always...

We'll see. Oh, BTW, I got the springs today. Not bad for $14.00 shipping. Came by UPS before 11:00am from North Carolina! Not bad. Plus, the springs look the part with right color codes. They did come in OEM package / wrapper with AUDI logo etc. Seems like the real deal and I feel more confident. I still would have to see how they compare to ones on the car. More on that later.

Amazon Amazon

Look at the picture again. It has the inverted "U" to connect to the LCA.

Fit perfectly in my car

I see what you're saying. However, Amazon is indicating that it does not fit my vehicle (2001 Audi A6 Quattro Base 4.2/V8 GAS).

I am waiting for Hans to call me back to confirm fitment and details. They are only 4 bucks more and they show the right part number.

Damn, this research and confirmations are taking longer than the actual repair itself....

Be very careful when removing the pinch bolt from the steering knuckle, or you will be buying a new steering knuckle...

Ask me how I know...

Hate to ask .. I am sure that was a headache you didn't need.

Also, when you say steering knuckle, what exactly do you mean? the tie rod ball joint or upper control arms ball joints?

I guess, the lingo threw me off. Simple but, that's what it takes nowadays I guess...

From what I gathered, I shouldn't have to touch the tie rods at all. Only upper control arm joints and lower control arm joint. Anyway, I'll check again.
