anyone done a timing belt with the dealer but supplied the parts?

I think supplying your own parts to a repair shop is a bad idea in general.
If there is a problem down the line you are screwed while the installer blames your parts and the parts supplier will (at best) replace any failed part.
Poor policy IMHO.

no dealer would allow it...
too much profit lost and too much liability in general.
Supply the parts..then you blow a bolt and your head is fractured. Your parts, your repair.
Have your indy supply the parts and if they are good they stand behind it. So for a savings of 100-150.00.. what did you gain?

I don't know about lack of confidence, but it would annoy me if it was my shop.
By buying somewhere else, you are removing my profit on any parts I sell. The parts you buy might be the wrong parts or incomplete. They might be substandard or more difficult to work with than the stuff I usually use. You are also telling me that you think I overcharge for my parts.

didn't you get a quote from the dealer couple days ago?
may have been a different post, but anyways I'm getting my timing belt and other 90k service and couple other things from my mechanic hopefully within a week. I don't think I'll ever go to a dealer for an expensive job like this. Why not look around for a reliable indy nearby?
btw i ordered my parts from ECStuning. i believe it's called the Ultimate Plus Timing kit
