Default Anybody have issues OR MPG gains after MAF cleaning?

Not getting very good fuel economy averaged 20MPG on 200 miles and 130 of it was easily highway. Cluster said I was averaging 23.7 and was happy with that. But, it lied.

I had a code for intermittent CTS and since people said it can cause poor fuel economy i changed it. Fuel economy is unchanged.

I looked into the maf. Lots of people cleaning it, but im wanting to know anyone have any bad longterm effect after cleaning? Did this help your Fuel economy? I also opened my airbox a while back and the Mesh screen was black. I cleaned if off with a clean microfiber cloth. So im guessing that the maf sensor itself may be dirty as well since the mesh was black.

If i go through with this, ill use CRC MAF cleaner.

Using it on a 2002 2.7T 5AT

Default 20 mpg doesn't seem that abnormal

Since 30% of it was not highway driven, it doesn't seem that bad.

Both my 4.2 A6 and 2.7T AR will never break the 20 mpg unless they are purely highway driven, or more than 90% of the trip. Then I may get 22-23, and 24 mpg if babied at 60 - 65 mph.

20 MPG from an Allroad is great! 20 from a sedan is, Meh.

IIRC allroad had different gearing which doesnt help the fuel economy as well.

Default Seasonal gas blends

Noticed the same drop on my car and newer work van with the mpg average in the dash display vs a month ago, lost about 1.5 mpg on both. It's the winter gas I'd bet.

I bet you;re right.

I use to see about a 7-10% drop too. But in many places we get oxygenated gas all year around now. So we always get bad fuel economy. That's good for the environment, burn more fuel.

Most gas stations around here are ad pushing the nitrogen enhanced juice,
now hydrogen enhanced would be the ticket if it's safe, just dreaming and thinking I guess.
