Akebono Euro Ceramic pads (rear). There is an extra metal plate (shim) attached to the back of the
pad. Do you keep that on or not?
Also, the sides of the pads are tapered. Wouldn't that hurt the pad's performance since there is less surface area to stop?
Thanks

Two gesses:
1. I would guess that is an anti-chatter (squeal) plate. I dont use them on other cars.
2. The chamfored edge keeps it from grabbing and should make for smoother operation. In that sense it might prolong life and performance. I would hope so, or why go to the expense. Very normal. in fact, I've never seena pad without them. Then again, I dont buy the expensive fru-fru pads many here may use.
