A6 4.2 Transmission problems
I have a 2000 A6 with the 4.2L. My transmission like to go into limp mode for awhile, then come out of limp mode, then go back in. My TCU was chipped before I bought the car. I've pulled the TCU out, and have noticed that the pins that hold the riser board (not sure if thats what its called) that holds the chip on it, are loose. I've tried to re-solder them, and while that helps it doesn't resolve the problem. I've tried to find a used TCU (4B0 927 156 BS) to replace mine but I haven't had luck. Can I buy a TCU designed for the 2.7 or 2.8 and just swap the chip? Is the chip on a stock TCU on a riser plate, or just placed directly on the board? Any help would be appreciated!

I don't believe the TCUs for the 4.2 will interchange with anything else, owing to the fact that they are controlling different transmissions. Are you sure it's a problem with the TCU? What trouble codes are you getting?

RE: Transmission issues
Unfortunately I know its a TCU issue. If I put pressure on the chip that sits on the TCU, I can get the problem to go away for a bit, but it'll eventually come back. I was hoping that I could either use the TCU from a 2001 or 2002 A6 4.2 or if I could get a different TCU and just swap the chip. Any help would be appreciated!
