Default '97 A6 quattro won't start

I have been needing to replace the battery to my '97 A6 quattro wagon. The cold killed my battery earlier in the winter and I was able to jump start it without any issues. After being parked for a few weeks, the battery is again dead. I attempted to jump start it again today. After hooking up the cable, it appeared to be getting power. The radio displayed "SAFE", so I know the battery had been completely dead. I tried to start it, but the was a pop/click and all power was lost. I left it hooked up to the jumper cables for a bit and tried a few more times, but up seems no power is getting to any part of the electrical system, including the ignition switch or starter....

What fuses/relays should I check? Could it be a kill switch in the alarm system?

Replace your bad battery then report back. Probably dirty connections but why diagnose a car that has a known issue?

Wrong forum. Your car is a C4.

Never jump start a car unless absolutely necessary (emergency). Much better to replace or charge battery.

You probably smoked a fusable link.
