A-6 External Mirror Question
2000 A-6 with heated self dimming mirror driver side.
Mirror glass is fogging around edges.
Can just the mirror glass, not entire mirror housing, be removed and replaced, and HOW is it done?
No prior experience with Audi repair but pretty handy with cars in general.
Where is best place to get replacement: Audi dealer only??

Unfortunately there is no way to fix the problem you have. Needs replacement.
I just pushy gently untill I can get a finger or 2 behind the glass then pull off. Seems kind of brute but once you get it off you will see how its attached by clips. When you reinstall just center it up and push firmly but slow in the center of the new glass till it pops in.
I never go to the dealer aka stealer. There are many good places to find parts do you want new or used?

I have one of these mirrors in my desk right now that I am not using. Let me know if you are interested

might not fit the '00 if he has the "Nemo" gimpy right side mirror. If he does, then the shape of the driver side mirror is different that the 2001 and later A6.

I sent you an e-mail asking about the type and condition of the mirror as I understand from Audi that there are two different types.
Does your mirror glass have a thin black plastic around the outer edge?

A big "Thank You" to Silver Arrow on this forum for sending me a really nice factory mirror at a very reasonable price.
I gave Audi dealer enough money in the last 2 days: $3000 for a check engine light so I can pass my state safety inspection .
