Default 5W50 Synthetic Oil in A6?

Should I switch to Castrol Sythetic oil or stick to 10W30? I have 106,000 kms on my 98 2.8 QTIP. I am tempted to switch since the oil change interval is 12,000kms. Of course, i could use my VAG-COM to reduce intervals as well. Comments? Experiences? Leaks?

Default I would consider sticking to mineral oil in this case...

Besides, it is good practice to get a higher mileaged car up on the lift as often as possible.

Default All oils are mineral based. The term synthetic simply means that the ....

selection of chemical makeup of the base components has been chosen rather than just happened as a reult of the blending.

It all comes from the same crude in the first place.

5W50 synthetic certainly won't hurt and is certainly preferable to 10W-30 dino oil

Default Using thinner oil can indeed improve mileage, but...

it's irresponsible to advise someone to use thinner oil than recommended by the factory. Audi vehicles leave the factory with 5W-40 oil. The thinnest oil I would recommend is Mobil1 0w-40. You can also purchase 5W-40 synthetic oil online. I believe ECS sells Pentosin 5W-40.

Cheers,

Default 5W30 is in my owners manual

With the 7 qts and the oil cooler and all, it's a lot different than other cars where the oil can get really hot.

Default Oil..... I suppose. I guess people only apply the 'Synthetic' to oil...

as a marketing/ sales term, when it has been chemivally broken down into its key components then selectively re-assmebled.

I am not expert so I am just guessing really. You need to look at this site for real infomation about oil.

http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/</a
