4.2 Trans fluid help. What kind?
For some reason the search tool is not bringing up one result no matter the amount or choice of words i use...
So.. I choose to ask you all here.
I need to change the fluids and filter in my transmission. When i bought the car ( 2000 A6 4.2) It had just had a new transmission installed via Sunset Audi in Beaverton.
I feel like when the vehicle shifts down to first, coming to a stop shifts hard, progressively harder over the past few weeks. Instead of just adding some id rather do the change.
Any material and or suggestions as to what oil is needed and possibly package deals would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

The tranny is made by ZF. They have the specs on their page. According to them, you really must use the OEM fluid - which is available from Pentosin, Audi/VW/Porsche, or from the OEM which is Esso. I just get the Audi or Pentosin fluid - its not THAT costly and i avoid problems.

I've probably logged about 250k-300k on Valvoline MaxLife ATF in Audis with ZF transmissions over the last 8+ years without issue. It's readily available at O'Reilly/Autozone/etc, and specifically states compliance with VW/Audi standards on the bottle. It's in a red bottle....Hard to miss.
I can't tell you that it's a perfect replacement for OE fluid, but my experience tells me that it's pretty damn good.

i use valvoline maxlife atf in all the Audi/VW/BMW/Mercedes transmissions up to about 05 at my shop. Then they start getting into strange colored fluids im not quite sure on testing compatiblity.
