2004 A6 Trunk Will Not Unlock
I searched the boards for the answer, but only found trunk locking issues that wouldn't close so I hoped to find an answer here...
I have been unable to "pop" my trunk for about the last 3 weeks. If I try to use the key fob, trunk release button or use the key, I only get the sound of the latch mechanism. I laid down the back seats to get access to the trunk to pull the manual release, but that only makes the mechanism sound as well. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Any chance it is a valet issue? Glove box is unlocked?
Probably obvious, but the trunk is physically unlocked? (you can lock the trunk with the key manually & it will stay locked regardless of fob operation)
Did you try to "help" it open by pulling up w/ the latch while using the remote button?
Beyond that, i believe VAGCOM can give you some central locking data, so you could see if the lock is responding to unlock/lock commands & start diagnosing from there.

Got it!
I tried all of NJA642's thoughts last night with no luck. Pulling up to get take out tonight, I thought "why does the glove box have to be unlocked? Of course its unlocked." Well, I locked the glove box, went out around to the trunk it it opened...never touched the glove box lock so far and never manually locked/unlocked the trunk with the key either. So, that makes me think something's a bit goofy but I have access again so thats a plus. Thanks for your reply!

Or not...
I've narrowed the problem down to a "heat" issue. I can unlock the trunk in the morning when its cool outside, but when it heats up late in the day and the car sits outside, then I can't open it...weird. I'm going to post in the WTB section any solution that someone may be able to provide: used trunk latch/harness assembly etc? Plesae PM me if you have a suggestion or a used assembly at a reasonable price. Thanks again for all of your answers.
