Default 2004 A6 4.2 upgrades

At the end of the certified warranty and considering some upgrades, but could use some advice.
1) I have the sports suspension...how much improvement is possible? Most of the threads discuss improvements over the stock suspension.
2) Brake upgrades...not interested in tracking the car, only improved braking.
3) Does this APR chip really make a difference?
4) Any other suggestions?

Many thanks.

R Smith

1. IMHO, there is no upgrade to the sport suspension
2. Select good quality pads that match the attributes you seek (low dust, quiet, whatever)
3. No
4. Just drive and enjoy.

Arguably the Koni Sport shocks are a less expensive replacement for the OEM sport suspension, as are H&R swaybars. However, you will quite likely get an 'upgrade' to a stiffer ride. YMMV.

As an owner of an A6 4.2 sport, here are my opinions;
1. Suspension: stick with the OEM shocks, but upgrade the anti-sway bars to H-sports or H&Rs;
2. Brakes: unless you are going to track, the brakes are good enough for stopping the car, even in spirited driving mode. If you are finding that they are lacking, go to a better pad, but don't waste $$ upgrading the calipers and rotors.
3. Chip: Don't waste your $$ on this, but I have no 1st-hand knowledge of any gains or lack thereof. I just know that ECU programming in a normally aspirated V8 wil yield you little to nothing. Maybe the tip chip for crisper shifts, but again, I think the performance gains are little.
4. Other: tires tires tires. If you have not already done so, upgrade the tires. This probably makes a bigger impact than anyone can predict. If you are able to, go to a summer rubber. The difference between summer tires and all seasons is dramatic, andmakes driving the car MUCH more fun!

Default Thanks for the advice

Thanks, everyone, for the feedback. All in all, I like this car very much...would love to have the RS6, but too many "grown up" responsibilities. Have already experienced the huge performance improvement when I got rid of the old tires and put on a set of Michelin sports. Again, thanks for the feedback.

or bilstein HD - my likely choice on the S6.

I have the APR chipit does make a difference. It is not one of thos e HOLY COW this is amazing tyope of things but throttle response and pick up are improved. I really notecied when I changed the battery and it defaulted back to the original tune.

I have been told the trans chip makes a nice change as well crisper shifts which would be welcome. Particular at a track event coming out of a turn. I have no personal experience with this though...yet
