2001 A6 4.2 Transmission Jerkiness
I need some feedback from fellow owners to a troubling transmission problem in my 2001 A6 4.2. Currently, I have 67,000 miles on the car. At 58,000mi, I had my 60,000mi service done at a very reputable, experienced independent Audi repair shop. At that time I had my transmission serviced with new fluid (Audi Stock), filter and pan gasket. A day or so after I picked up the car, I noticed a transmission jerk/grab when the car shifted from 2nd to 3rd gear when cold. Once warmed up 5-10mins, all was normal. These symptoms continued for about 2-3 wks. During this 2-3wk period, I brought the car back to the mechanic and he re-changed the fluid, not really having a good reason to do so, but he thought it was worth a try. Now, I experience this jerkiness when the car is warmed-up, after 10-15 mins of driving. It is not as predictable as when it began, some days it does not occur, and has more of a relation to moderate acceleration than when it all started.
Does anyone have any thoughts or similar experiences as to the problem?
All replies are appreciated.

Re: Sounds low on fluid.
Thanks for the feedback. Initially, I had the same concern. My mechanic filled it using VAG-COM to determine temperature... etc. He is confident that the fluid is not low. I have one more description to add; it happens only once during my commute.

Once per warm-up cycle?
I probably wouldn't worry about it, and would just chalk it up to age. Unless it's really, really violent.
I assume the transmission isn't throwing any codes that can be read with VAG-COM, correct.

Re: Sounds low on fluid.
When I had my transmission flushed (99 A8 117m mi)it had similar problems. I checked the fluid level (cold) and it was about 3/4 qt low. When I topped it off, that problem went away.

I would check the level one more time. Remember, you need to drop off the car a night before.
You can't go to the mechanic and just check the level. It has to be cold when you start the procedure because it warms up really fast 3-4 minutes.

Re: Once per warm-up cycle?
Thanks again for the feedback. Yes, it occurs once per warm-up cycle. No codes are being thrown per VAG-COM. I have a hard time chalking it up to age. I had never experienced this before the transmission fluid change. Perhaps I should have followed the old rule of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I dropped it off the day before. The transmission was cold. BTW, I like the fridge(<:
