Hey guys,

New Audi owner. Just recently purchased a 2000 A6 4.2L with pretty high km's.

Aside from a few minor issues the car is in good contidion. However The other week when my father borrowed the car. When trying to start it he heard a loud bang followed by smoke from under the bonnet. He wad able to get the car started and nurse it home.

I have pulled the engine covers off to inspect the problem, and discovered that the intake manifold has a massive crack.

What would cause this to happen? The car was previously running fine.

I can replace the intake but want to be sure any underlying issues are resolved to avoid a repeat. I have tried a search but not found anyone else who has had their intake crack.

Any ideas?

Yowza.. The only thing I can think of that could cause that would be a massive backfire of some sort..
