1996 A6
I was thinking of purchasing a 1996 A6 with 110,000 miles other then a good clean up the car seems to be alright. I wanted to know is there were any problems with this model or its year. Also what parts should be replaced

Ignition switch is most common problem (easy DIY repair). At 110K miles, timing belt service...
(belt, ilder, tensioner, waterpump, thermostat) should have been replaced.

I loved my 1996 A6
I sold it this January with 95,000 miles on it for $7K. It had tires with 20K miles on them and i had just got the 90K service done... beautiful car.. with 6 disc CD Changer.. everything worked...
Make sure you check the following
1) Boots - Each costs about $300 to change at dealer
2) Ignition switch - $35 if you change it yourself
3) Headlights are weak so you have to use the foglights all the time.. Also do the High beam bulb in the low beam mod
4) The Remote never worked properly so go ahead and change it out to an after market.. I have a tech note in the tech section DEI 711T is good
Thats it.. Great car..

The beauty of those 12v 2.8s is they dont have enough power to hurt themselves :-)
Very reliable. Ignition switches fail regularly. The usual maint. Service the auto tranny. Timing belt every 60-90k (with h20 pump etc.)
relatively easy to work on, too.
