I'll share my experience in the Seattle area...I don't know if Sirius lags Google traffic data because I don't compare, but personally I find the Traffic info to be great. I put in my destination anywhere I'm going and I get the update in my instrument cluster on upcoming traffic. It counts down "stop & go traffic in 0.5 mi....stop & go traffic in 300 yards..." and more often than not it's really accurate and I know to slow down early.

Sirius traffic reliability depends a great deal on location. Here in the Boston-Providence area I'd say I get about an overall 75-80% accuracy to the current traffic conditions. Not as good as Google traffic on my phone but it's free (for 4 years), integrated with the MMI and better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
