So to Tim and those who have had a chance to drive this. What about the lack of a V8? 550i and E Class both have them. I understand that regulatory considerations are involved. But, can the blown 6 cyclinder really compete? Why not a supercharged V8?

I currently own an A4 Avant for the wife. I have owned 7 Audis going back to the 100LS & Fox and didn't give up on the brand, but this has shades of the underpowered Audis of the 70's & 80's. The 2002 A6 4.2 I owned made me forget all about those infamous earlier versions, but now those painful memories are returning.

Tell me not to worry. I might get one of these babies if it's fast enough.

The notorious ''lack'' of V8 is just temporary! You should have learned till now that Audi is introducing a S6 in few months with V8 TFSI and 408ps! Later on comes a RS6 with bi-turbo V8 and more than 560ps!
Forget about V8 in ''standard A'' versions of ''C'' class segment though! Audi is quite cleverly offering slow selling V8s in more special ''S'' versions than both BMW and MB!
Cheers

CAFE Standards and welcome to the world of getting around them. Those V8s will have a price increase for sure. There is plenty of power on hand in our Supercharged 3.0. With the 8 speed gas mileage is unbeatable in the segment.
