I have a 9500ix radar detector and a dashcam to be hardwired with the car.

there are couple options from my research:
1. use fuse box on the driver's side,a fuse tap and a escort hardwiring kit, hide the cord in the headliner, the driver side A pillar
2. use the overhead sunroof console
3. use the 12v outlet in the center armrest, use the passenger side A piller and hide the cord as much as possible.

which do you prefer on a C7 A6?

I just did this last week for the dashcam and am planning to wire the radar detector tomorrow or Monday night. I went to the driver side fuse box and tucked the wire above the headliner. Be warned, both the headliner and the a pillar trim are very tight. I had to use a plastic bicycle spoon to make room for running the wire past the edge of the headliner. I am consodering wiring the radar to the rearview mirror wiring instead.

Do not wire it into the overhead console. If you have any problems later, Audi will not cover it. I recommend wiring it to an empty fuse on the passenger side. I think this is the path that most people have gone with.

Thanks for the warning and tool used, Which radar detector and hardwire kit did you get? Did you consider having the radar detector to go through the driver side A pillar and fuse box as well?


Noted, Thanks! Looks like the fuse box is the way to go. Now I just need figure out how to have both radar detector and dash cam go cords tucked in the headliner and A pillar

I have only wired up the dashcam so far. It is in front of the rearview mirror up high. I also have dark tint on the top portion of the windshield (eyebrow) so it hides everything fairly well. Only the lens sticls down under the tint and is blocked mostly by the mirror so it doesnt really stand out. I used the power cord that came with the camera and cut and spliced in an inline fuse. I may go the add a fuse route to make it look a bit cleaner. I found a thread in the S6 forum where someone else did the same thing and basically duplicated it. Im running a Bell STI from my previous VW tdi that I wired the same way.

Nice! Hiding the camera well is very important.
Do you have the link to the S6 forum thread? How hard is it to push the cord into the headliner and A pillar?

Use a telephone cord. It's flat and has four conductors. The conductors can carry two to four amps.

You only need one wire and tie both devices in at the top. Grab ground potential from a body screw.

That's a awesome thread and car,

I read two ways for A pillar routing:
1 not remove A pillar and use the gap on the top and the weatherstrip
2 remove A pillar cover and route the cord behind the curtain airbag.( this makes sure the airbag operation is not affected by not having a cord crossing it)

looks like method 2 has larger capacity for both the dash cam and radar cords. Just need some effort removing A pillar cover.
