Trade Value for 2012 A6 to a 2013 S6
Went to the dealer today and test drove a S6. Nice car!!! Sat down and asked what they would give me for my 2012 A6 Prestige (phantom Black, 19", driver assist) with 8500 miles. They quoted me $46,952. WOW!
Any idea on what I would get for it outside a dealer?

I just bought a 2012 prestige so I'm pretty plugged in to the market. The private sellers are looking for $52-$55k although $55k is on the high side. Once you get up to $55k you're competing with the dealer CPO vehicles and those extended warranties are valuable to have (and to give). There was a member ned Zed that was selling hers (glacier white) for $57,500. Not sure how she made out though but you can ask.
Does it have LEDs? How about the Audi care which is transferrable?

I just traded my 12 Q5 got a fair trade! Audi loyalty, discount etc. I would think that a loss of $12-$15 k is normal first year. In most states the sales tax is only payed on the difference in purchase price vs trade. That most be calculated in as the car is pricy. Did you get a discount and Audi loyaly? I think you must look at total out of pocket vs just trade value. It is difficult to sell cars of this price range via private sale. You are competing with CPO cars as others have stated. Life is short enjoy it! I realized that after losing 3 friends and and an uncle to cancer in the past 4-5 months.

Oh, and btw, I have lost much, much more than a cars depreciation on "investments" over the last couple of decades.
It all comes out in the wash...

Depreciation reality woes.
I was thinking of trading my car for a 2013 A8. My car is loaded and had a sticker of $72,000. I think I had 8,500 miles at its appraisal, and I was quoted $52,000. The more expensive the car, the bigger the hit. The salesman stated that someone can buy a nice new A6 for $52,000. I understand, but it doesn't make it easier to take the loss.

What is CPO?
My A6 has the extended warranty which I was hoping to cash in on since it hasn't been used.
I PM'd Zed and will wait for her response.
It does not have the LEDs but does have the extended warranty and Audi care.

Another good point on the loyalty program and discount. I didn't ask because I'm still bouncing around on the idea.
Sorry to hear about your friends and family.
