Default Q5 hybrid mileage 24/30

Official EPA mileage for the Q5 hybrid is 24/30. It has the 2.0T engine, 8 speed auto and quattro. 0-60 mph 6.8 sec. Weight 4431 lb. Price premium is about $3,200.

The standard Q5 2.0T gets 20/28, 0-60 mph 7.0 sec and weighs 4079 lb.

Not worth it?

Why I am writing this in the A6 forum is the A6 hybrid is supposed to use the same 2.0T engine and electric motor, 8 speed auto but FWD. What do you think its mileage will be?

unimpressive mpg. It would take a lot of driving to make up the premium spent.

+1 waiting for the diesel

I was considering holding out for this hybrid but that was over a year ago and got the A6 instead. Would be more impressed if city mpg was closer to 30, like the RX.

And to answer the OP, I'd expect to just ratio up the mileage from the 2.0T A6...but seems like the A6 hybrid will not compete with the GS 450h, either in MPG or performance.

It's not that bad of a price. There is NO prestige model 2.0T gas. You can get to 48k on a 2.0T Gas Q5.

So to be @ 52k for a Prestige Hybrid, it's not a terrible deal.

The Hybrid is more of a performance model. I've been told the sales numbers of Hybrids allocated will be very very small.

The resale on the Hybrids down the road should be very high. With such a small number out there....you won't be able to find them on the used market.

OK - slightly off topic but same subject: we were going to buy the A6 last year but was more interested in luxury and MPG rather than performance. We got a Lexus ES 300h about a month ago. The premium was approximately $2,500 over the gas model - which was nothing when you consider that the ES 350 was rated at 21/31 and the hybrid (300h) was rated at 40/39 - it will take about three years to gain back that premium. We'll need another car soon and want an Audi but we're going to wait for the A4 or A6 TDI.

No problem going off topic. What real world mileage are you getting in the Lexus? The Toyota hybrid system is easily the benchmark. I'm starting to wonder if Audi has been reluctant to release the A6 hybrid in the US yet because the EPA numbers aren't that good.

Similar thinking for diesels. Maybe they just don't think the US market will be super impressed with them yet. I drove a diesel rental in the UK for a week once. It was a Vauxhall Insignia which is the Buick Regal here, and it had a 6 speed manual and I think it had a 2L 4 cyl with 160 hp and about 260 lb.ft of torque. That torque was great in regular driving because it came really low around 1,500 rpm. But if you're going for flat out acceleration and 0-60 times, you'll be extremely disappointed because the torque and power fall off completely after only 3,000 rpm. So it's a very different driving experience. I did get 40 mpg (US gallon) though.

We have had our ES 300h for about a month and have put on about 500 miles (a little bit of all type of driving - including taking our neighbors every time we go out to dinner because the back seat room is huge) - we are presently getting 39.3 mpg.

I spoke with an Audi dealer and they admit hybrid was not in the cards only since a few years ago. They said they were getting more efficient numbers with the diesel counterparts but since hybrids is simply the popular "go to" type of vehicle when looking for efficiency, they were forced to start developing it.
