Sorry, that's incorrect. Assuming we are discussing a new TDI with DPF, the oil must meet the 507.00 standard. As previously stated, all 507.00 oils are 5W30 without exception.

You need to return the vehicle to them and have the oil change assuming you wish to maintain your warranty coverage. You are getting a lot of bad information. You should mention the name of this dealer so others can be aware.

FYI, The picture is straight from the manual and it shows acceptable oil viscosity for diesels.
Did you point the dealer to the words "never top off with more than a total of 0.5qt/liter engine oil that does not conform to Audi oil specification VW 507 00" because his 5W40 is listed in your photo as an emergency top-off only....

I'm curious if the earlier paragraphs on the recommended oil say "any VW 507 00" oil or if they're more specific?

I'm happy that you're happy, but any dealer that didn't advise me when I might be in error would NOT be on my good list. (As an aside this is admittedly tricky, but my salesguy did it well - he noted that I might want to drop the rear-side airbags from my order due to concerns with kids and airbags, gave me some more details and asked what I wanted to do. I thanked him, noted that I'd done *extensive* research when I got the C5 that way and that I'd keep the order as-is - and thanked him again for bringing it up.)

Some hard-core VW TDI owners were mighty pissed back in 2009/2010 when VW dealers were just putting any oil rather than vw507 spec in the car. I remember some owners bringing their own Castrol SLX or Mobil1 ESP liters and demanding to see the empty gold bottles Castrol bottles after the oil change. Spec oil ensures many things, but the key on diesels is to have the oil suspend soot and protect the DPF. If you catch their mistake, then get it corrected. It won't do long-term damage like an oil overfill would... which a Mercedes dealer did to me on an AMG. That's an entirely different story.

Invest in a 32mm 1/2 socket (for the oil filter cap) and a MityVac topside extractor and you can do your own oil changes with Castrol SLX or Mobil1 ESP and ensure it's done the way you want.

I've done some VW oil changes at the dealer and watched them use the right oil but the service invoice would print out the wrong oil because the dealer didn't have a TDI specific line item for oil changes. This was a problem for me because a future owner might freak out seeing a non 507 oil on the invoice. With DIY, you'll have the proof the right oil was used.

The diesel equipped with DPF will always be 5W30 - - no latitude there.

The earlier diesel cars fitted with the PD engine or the older VE pump engine would conform to 505.01 (5W30 or 5W40) or 505.00. There's a fair range of viscosities for that group since the 505 standard will always align with the 502 standard.

Yes, if Super's car really is filled with 5W40 oil, I do believe the "service writer", or at least the dealership, needs to be identified as a courtesy to forum members.

Default There's a reason for the Low-SAPS oil

Thanks uberwgn! This is exactly why you should not deviate from VW507 spec oil for the TDI.
