Default OEM or aftermarket windshield

Hi guys,

A week ago I noticed a rock chip in my windshield, just few inches above where the wipers sits. I had Safelite technician stopped by my place and he told me it can't be repaired.
It's because where the rock hit was at the bottom of my windshield (black out part), he can't warranty his job as he can't see if it's been repaired properly.

Fine. They contacted my insurance company (Farmers) and they declined to replace with OEM parts.
The price difference I heard to use OEM windshield is ~$600, plus my deductible $100, that's ~$700ish.

I searched in the forum and was surprised to see almost all of you were able to get OEM repair from insurance.
I don't think I am paying a cheap insurance, mine is ~$160/month for 2013 A6.

Will you guys go for aftermarket or OEM for windshield?
I don't have HUD or lane assist. According to my search, it makes less difference.

Note: I live in Seattle, US

Thanks

Default Oem or not?

Go OEM you will be glad you did. If you ever trade car it will be noticed by a sharp trade in guy. And that will cost rightvthrre. It is an important safety piece, why chance with a third world product????

I had my windshield replaced (aftermarket glass) by AAA Auto Glass last May. Don't know if AAA offers this service in all areas, but was $372 installed, right in the parking lot at my office - very prompt and professional service.

I only used aftermarket once and regretted it so my recommendation is only OEM. The non OEM had distortions that was indicative of a cheap replica.

I replaced mine twice with OEM. Insurance paid both times.

May I ask which insurance company are you using? Are you living in one of those state where law requires insurance company uses OEM parts for repair?
Maybe it's time for me to shop for a new insurance company....

I live in New York State and have State Farm insurance. I have the HUD. Both times State Farm offered OEM right off the bat.

I just had mine done by Safelite on a 2013 prestige which has all the camera, lane guidance and HUD electronics. Took them 3 different tries to find the right one but all were OEM glass, and USAA didn't blink. Would even have paid for calibration if it was needed, but it wasn't.
Might not be a bad idea to start a thread dedicated to how various insurance companies deal with Audis.

Farmers insurance is telling me that they will only pay for OEM if car is less than 1 year old... Apparently not the case in your situation
Wondering if NY and Chicago have law requiring insurance company to use only OEM parts for repair.
