Default No one will sell me 17" wheels for my A6

Although the 2013 A6 can be ordered with 17" wheels for the premium, or 18" wheels for the premium plus( my car),both with the 3.0 engine, Tire Rack, and others will not sell me 17 wheels for new winter tires 225/55x17. I prefer 17" because they are smaller and lighter, and less expensive. Tire Rack & others tell me there will be too close a tolerance to brakes and calipers, unless I buy OEM wheels, which cost over $300.00 ea.When I tell them that Audi sells 17" for the car, they say they won't, or do not have wheels that fit.
I have seen one person on this site who said they bought Moda MD11's from Tire Rack, but they will not sell them to me, or ,if they do, and they don't fit, there will be no return.
This is a follow up to a previous post, but now I can't find the wheels I want. Have any of you put 17" wheels on a 2013 A6, premuim plus, 3.0 engine, and what brand. The offset is 39.
Thank you

I tried to put 17" rims on my 2012 A6 3.0 S-line for the winter and the tire retailer tried to fit a 17" rim on but it won't clear the brakes (rear brakes were okay but front wouldn't fit). Therefore, I had to buy 18" rims for winter (have 20" OEM rims for summer). Therefore, there may be truth in what your retailer stated.

Here's some info I saved. Don't shoot me if it's not 100% accurate. They said it, I copied it.

I'm running 16" with 225/60-16 on winter setup. I don't think you can go any smaller.

I don't know if there is a difference between 2012 & 2013 Premium Plus re: caliper size however as I have stated previously, I am running 17" Moda MD11's that were ordered from Tire Rack. This is my second winter running the Blizzak WS70's on the Moda's.

I just looked at my shipping record and they shipped 17x8 Machined w/Black Accent moda MD11 @ $114.00 each in September of 2011.

FWIW, Colin @ x4671 took my order...

Default Thanks for the info

It now looks like the 17" can fit, but is perhaps a close fit in some cases. It looks like I should stick to 18" wheels to be safe, or consider ordering Audi17" OEM wheels, but at $300.00/wheel, I will likely go with after market 18". Thank you all. What a great web site this is. As I wait for my new car- expected April, I can learn a lot about my car before it arrives.

Good luck with the A6. I am with you on wheels - seems most folks want wider profile 19" plus wheels, but not me. I like some sidewall to absorb the crappy roads around the NYC area.
I got a 2013 A6 2.0T quattro Premium Plus in December with 245/45x18's - plenty low profile enough for me. Again, welcome and good luck - these are fine cars.

Whichever wheel you choose, test fit on the front end before having the tires mounted. A lot of places won't allow a return if a tire has been mounted.

Default Test fit

I expect to order from Tire Rack in the fall, and to get Dunlop Winter 4D, which were in short supply for this year, but better in the fall. If I get them mounted from Tire Rack, they guarantee a fit.

Thank you

If you're still looking for the 17", the Motegi MR118 are available at eBay and probably some other places. Snow tires will be on the end of season sales in a couple of months.

Default Tire Rack response

I e-mailed Gary @ tirerack, who many of you have used. He replied that they have not yet tested the 2013 A6 3.0, but are likely to do so by the time I want to buy, which will be for the fall of 2013. My new car will not arrive until late March/early April- so I will wait for more information.
