Yes, T-Mobile. You'll need VIN and SIM card ID to get a data plan.

Navigation uses satellite and you don't have to pay (just like if you buy a garmin ).

Audi connect is a internet connection to look up info on google, use google maps with navigation, or use as a wifi hot spot.

You also can have Sirius traffic and or Sirius radio

Would the MDI cable to lighting cable work too or does it have to be AMI?

Not sure what you are asking. I don't know what an "MDI" cable is. If you mean an Apple 30 pin to Lightning adapter to an AMI cable, yes, it will work but only for audio, not video. That's also addressed in the link I gave you.
If you want MMI/device control and display, you need an iDevice hooked to an AMI cable or using Bluetooth Audio (with somewhat more limited control of the portable device). a USB AMI cable can also provide some MMI control and display of a device. A mini jack or composite a/v AMI cable will not allow the MMI to control a device.

The best quality sound will derive from using high bit audio files copied to an SD card or the Jukebox. Either will trump an AMI cable or Bluetooth Audio.

I found this on Amazon, not sure if it will work.
Amazon.com: MDI Adapter Cable - Lightning Charger: Electronics Amazon.com: MDI Adapter Cable - Lightning Charger: Electronics

I have pasted the part number for the AMI to lighting cable on google but couldnt find anyone selling them. For me I just need it for playing audio and charging phone. Sorry if I am being a newbie, only had this car for a week and still learning more about it. Been owning Japanese cars for years and just switched to a German car

Yeah, I don't know why call it an "MDI" cable (VW term?). It looks similar to an Audi Lightning AMI cable that so far, has only been in limited availability in Europe. I have no idea if this VW cable would work in an A6. See my write up for the Audi AMI/Lightning model numbers and differences.
