Yeah, I don't know why call it an "MDI" cable (VW term?). It looks similar to an Audi Lightning AMI cable that so far, has only been in limited availability in Europe. I have no idea if this VW cable would work in an A6. See my write up for the Audi AMI/Lightning model numbers and differences.

I haven't looked into the headlight assembly of the C7 A6 so I can't comment with 100% confidence but I think it's an overkill to have an Audi technician to switch them out.
Most likely, it's just a matter of removing the back cover of the headlight assy, removing wiring harness from the bulb, removing a tab that holds the bulb in place tight and reverse...
I haven't looked into the headlight assembly of the C7 A6 so I can't comment with 100% confidence but I think it's an overkill to have an Audi technician to switch them out.
