My Black Emergency Key doesn't work
I was just checking to see if it worked. While the black key can manually open the driver door, holding the black key up to the key imprint on the dash generates the "key is not recognized" message - and the A6 won't start.
Could it be I have too many keys? I have 3 regular key fobs programmed (#3 was done at the dealer several months ago) for 2 other potential household drivers. These 3 key fobs work fine.
Could the dealer accidentally have wiped the Black key? Or can only 3 active keys be maintained? I remember searching that 4 keys can be dealer programmed.
I'm going in for my 35K service next week and I'm wondering if I should ask the dealer to re-activate the black key. Will it be at the expense of one of the 3 normal key fobs?
Thanks upfront for your comments.

If you had any keys made for the car and didn't bring in that plastic one, then it probably did get wiped over. If they told you to bring them all, which they usually do, then you will probably have to pay for this to get programmed.
So bring in ALL your keys for your appointment in case they do program this plastic key for you.
