MMI Update

Is Audi as bitchy about updates as BMW?
BMW will never perform a software update unless you specifically complain about an issue that is fixed by said update.
Just want to be prepared for my first service appointment.
Do I need to have a written complaint about an issue to get the software updated?

Not on the latest MMI update. In my experience, it depended on the MMI version, VIN and direction from Audi. For example, MMI 0566 which appeared with early MY2013, in most cases, would be updated from earlier MY 2012 versions (i.e. 0467/0468) only if there was a reported issue. MMI 0609 which appeared on later 2013s was not made available as an update at all. In the case of the current 0715-2 which first appeared with MY2014, Audi has apparently made it available under warranty to all C7s either automatically or upon owner request depending on the dealer. Since Audi typically keeps dealers in the dark about these things, other than directives by VIN in the dealer's system to perform them under warranty, there's no way for them or owners to know the whys and wherefores of these updates.

No problem. Still puzzled why they won't update your MMI to 715. Perhaps those who had the later 2013 C7 MMI 0609 aren't showing up on the designated VINs for the 715 for some reason. Maybe 715 is actually the same as 0609 and is for those with earlier versions like my 0566 and they decided to give it a separate version number.
BTW, I sent you a PM on that other thing.

Are these MMI updates related to the steering fix? I have 0489 and am hesitsnt to update MMI if that means updating the steering. I have no problem with my steering and would like to keep it as is.

That's a very good question. Other than owners with MMI 0566 getting back song info with Bluetooth Audio on streaming apps with IOS 6+, some have reported that it adds a feature of Street View popping up when nearing a qualifying destination on the MMI screen. (I've yet to see this in any map mode, Google or Standard. Although, like 0566, 0715-2 provides Street View in the Google Earth map overlay). Otherwise, my dealer told me that Audi only reported it corrects various issues and adds stability - whatever that might mean.
Perhaps others can chime in with any new discoveries.
