Default Key Fob battery and replacement

Surprisingly, the battery in my key fob needs replacing already, as the center dashboard display indicates the battery is weak everytime I start the car. I am kind of surprised that the battery is dead after less than 2 years, as I rarely have ever replaced batteries in key fobs. At any rate, does anyone know how to open up the fob (is for a prestige, so not sure if they are different for different models or not)? I do not see any obvious way to gain access to the battery, though I am sure it is probably pretty straight forward. I do not want to break it though, as that would be a costly lesson. thanks.

Very easy.
1- Remove key.
2- 'Pinch" silver button and little tab on the backside of the button. Pull.
The assembly will come out.
3- Replace battery.
Done....

Or

Try a little electrical tape on the "dashboard display that shows..." (probably a temp solution) lol

Thanks for the directions, it was quite easy. The best part was I even had a CR 2032 spare battery on hand....very quick and easy.

Thank you -- that worked really well.

FWIW don't waste your money on an overpriced replacement battery at the dealer or at Radio Shack -- you can get CR2032 batteries VERY cheap on eBay or Amazon, and if you order some when you first get the "replace key battery" indication, they should arrive in plenty of time.

I got a dozen of them from eBay last time. They're around $.25 each.

Bless you, Mike! Totally unobvious way to get in there and pop the battery out.

That's what you get for wearing pants with pockets, instead of a proper kilt with a sporran.(G)

Go to the dealership, and in the gift shop ask them for a proper kilt in the Audi Clan tartan. Honest. (WEG)

Heh kilts would be a bit cold up here in the great white north... but you gave me an idea to look for a fob cover/pouch/case!
