Default Front plate triggering parking sensor

I decided it would be cool to put a German front license plate on my A6. After installation I thought it looked great. However once I put the car in reverse and the parking sensors were activated the new wide license plate constantly triggers the front sensor. How can a German car not be able to accommodate a German license plate???

Has this happened to anyone else?

I know the obvious reaction would be to just tell you to remove the plate, since the car looks so much better without it, imho. However, if that's not your inclination, then you'll need to determine if the front sensors are being blocked by the physical plate, then you really have 2 options:
  1. re-home the plate to a location which doesn't impede the sensors
  2. cut holes in the plate to allow the sensors to work.
FWIW, every time I have friends come over from the EU and see nice looks vehicles without front plates, they wish they could do the same back home.

I prefer not having a front plate either. I bought the car in Illinois and there was already a front plate attached, unfortunately when I removed it there was exposed drilled holes that were ugly. Some cars have pre made holes for front license plates and some don't. The A6 doesn't.

If you look at the finer details of the manufacturing process of the A6 that is made for different markets then you would see hundreds of changes for each market. Just because it is a German car does not mean that it is the same. The front bumper, for example, is different because of the differences in crash standards in different markets but it looks identical.
This is the main reason that it is so important that posters put their location in their posts - the hardware, software, firmware, weather conditions, kinds of roads etc all contribute to the comprehensive interchange of information among the contributors of the forums.

Where did you get the mount for the plate?

DB22 - Even when a poster (me) has their city and state listed you still somehow turn it into people not listing their location. Yes the car was built for the US, not Germany, Irony - A car built in Germany can't accommodate a German (actually EU) front license plate. Anyway, $45 thrown away...

Just some internet one size fits all bracket. It is flat and doesn't fit into the grooves of the grill. It is 3/4" away from the sensors. It doesn't stick out far at all, unless someone tells me otherwise I don't think anything will work

Glad to see that you post your location. Your thread was a perfect example of why location posting is so important which is why I chose to use it, there are many people who don’t have a clue about the ROW.
Sorry you lost your $45 but as has been previously mentioned, no front plate at all looks the best. My dealer fitted the mounting plate but I took it off and filled the holes with gloss RTV and it is not apparent unless you are just at the right angle.

I took DB22's advice and filled the holes with black RTV. Thanks for the tip!
