Is the rebate expected to go up or down as they get closer to the 2013 models and when do they stop taking orders for 2012s? If I want a manual I may end up having to order for one.
No clue as to how the rebate may evolve, but the ordering window for 2012s has already closed. It's all 2013 now.

I'm coming out of a Cadillac and getting $1500 off my A6, picking it up tomorrow. Dealer never mentioned when the rebate is ending.

It looks like the price for the 2013 is less than a $100 or so but the conquest rebate is not there according to a dealer I spoke with.

The TMW according to Edmunds and KBB a Manual Premium Plus with Metalic paint is a little over $37,100 with a MSRP aroud $38,900 With the conquest rebate that would put me at just over $36,000 which I could live with. Unfortunately, none of the dealerships in my area have that in inventory.

I do see a manual with what I want at a dealership 4 hours away. Wife wants to keep the cost down and want to get a good deal otherwise I'll have to go used. I could wait for the 2013 and hope there is a conquest rebate coming. Any guesses on whether this will occur???
Other options are..
A) request a trade for the car I found. I'm thinking I lose quite a bit of leverage this way though. I could ask any one of the 2 or 3 dealerships with a 75 minute drive to give me a bid on it and see what they could do.
B) buy directly from the dealership 4 hours away.

Any thoughts?

Not sure how you expect to get a 2013 A6 Premium Plus under $45,000 - much less $40,000.

Yes, meant A4. Should have specified that.

A 2013 A6 2.0 is going to run about $44,000 in premium plus (perhaps $43,000 if you can get rebates)
