Audi A6 C7 FL Traffic Sign Recognition retrofit guide
Hi. My name is Rizzio, and i'm from North europe
I am going to try to guide you trough the process of installing the Vze system in an Audi A6 C7 facelift.
I'm going to take my car as basis for the installation, but i do have som knowledge with other spec/pre facelift cars.
My car does not come with matrix led lights, no side assist system, or any other equipment that uses the front camera, so this is a full retrofit.
My car does come with the 7UG Mib2 High Mmi (4G)
First, some usefull websites, so you can check your PR codes, and what parts your car needs regarding upgrades
PR codes checker, Partscatalog, Wirediagrams etc
Part 1: Hardware/installation
If you have Acc, you might just need softwarecoding to install the vze (might need the vze cable from 85)
Laneassist do have all needed hardware, just coding needed
Matrix led lights have the camera, so wiring and imageprocessor needed
So scan your car and compare the parts to my scan regarding partnumbers.
My partslist include, A new front windscreen, front camera, cameracover, image processor, Sensor Electronic module, (steering wheel stalk (i wanted the lane assist as well), image processor bracket, cables, tools, tesa tape!!
I needed:
A new front Windscreen: 4G0 845 099 G NVB
Camera Control Module J852 (VCDS ECU 85) Camera: 4H0 907 217 F
Image Processing Control Module J851 (VCDS ECU 8E) Image processor: 4G0 907 107 H
Sensor Electronic module J849 (VCDS ECU 3B) Not compatible: Do not use 4G0 907 637 H!, upgrade to Compatible unit: 4G0 907 637 K
Steering wheel unit J527 was 4H0 953 568 K, upgraded to 4H0 953 568 H (for the lane assist)
Cameracover: 4G0 907 299 AB 4PK and 4G0 907 225 C 4PK
Image processor bracket: 8K0907731
Cables: i used Lane assist anc traffic sign recognition
if you want lane assist:
Without ACC: Steering Column Lever Assembly: 4G0 953 502 S (this one have avant rear viper, cruicecontroll and lane assist)
With ACC: Steering Column Lever Assembly: 4G8 953 502 S (this one have avant rear viper, acc and lane assist)
Tesa tape so you avoid rattling (get more than one )
Tools: Vag Com, Vag Can Pro
I would install the parts needed in this order if your going to do this retrofit. Check what equipment your car, and whats missing.
1:
Get the sensor electronic module first, and upgrade this part if your unit ends with suffix H. Its located under the armrest
When installed, enter adress 3B and choose basic settings, Calibration, press go, and your set.
Sara 3D is now upgraded to handle image signals.
If you skip this part, you will end up with the error "Function Restricted due to Missing Message(s)"
2:
Imageprocessor. Remember to get correct one for your car, facelift version 4G0 907 107 H, its located in the front footwell in front of the passenger seat
The short version is, find the wires from the gateway (pin 7 and 23) that goes to the abs unit, cut the wires, and extend them to the imageprocessor. And pin them correctly (pin 3 and 4, 9 and 10)
If you mess up the wiring (use the *4) from the Gateway J533 via the Imageprocessor J8501 to the abs J104, this happens, happy hunting faultcodes.
My ABS unit 4G0 907 379 Q have the code AJ (No acc)
3:
Get a new windscreen installed by your prefferd workshop. I went with hud/camera/coated/heated (se partscatalog for prefferd windscreen) or ask dealer/workshop.
Install the camera and wires.
Note!! Route the power wires to the Terminal 15 (left side fuse box). Use fuse nr 11 in fuse panel A Black for the Imageprocessor
You could take the easy route and choose to put the wires (both camera and imageprocessor) in the floor going trough the B pilars and under the back seats
Do NOT USE the right side fuse box. This will result in no connection
4:
If you want lane assist, see this article
or this one
Part 2: Software/Coding
Notes:
1:
You might need to go to you local workshop for a camera calibration
2:
You might need the Vag can pro tool to update the software in the camera and imageprocessor
There is a lot of different setups from the factory. Supported : Jap, Uk, Rest of the world. with or without trafficsign recognition, and with or without lane assist. The USA only has lane assist, no traffic sign recognition.
Update!
There might be som development regarding USA, there is a new file that states there is traffic sign recognition for the USA
Could someone verify that this is the case? Vag can pro needed
If you get the error "outside operational area ", you need to update the software in your imageprocessor
And the fastest way to get the Vze, is to use the vze script in vag can pro
Vagcom:

Very good write-up, thanks a lot!
How have you updated the Image processor's firmware?
I have the exact same unit as you do and getting the outside of operational area error.
Thanks!

Great write-up on it!!!
Just curious, if i have the same Immage Processing component as you attached both HW and FW (4H0 907 107 H HW: 4H0 907 107) do i need to still upgrade with VCP if i get outside of operational area message? If so what software version do i need?

The short answer to that is yes. If its a retrofit imageprocessor, you dont know the origin of the 8e, and not what settings it has. So the reason for the vcp softwareupdate is to reset the parameters for the system, so it fits tour needs. Its stil the same software, its just on or off with laneassist and on or off with the traffic sign recognition. And offcourse the area of operation.
your error suggests sw update

Thanks for the explanation @Rizzio . I guess it will not be the case with me because i did not retrofit it, i already have ACC, Side Assist, Lane Assist and Matrix on the car.
Will try to see if it works for me as i am in Eastern Europe and from what i saw that it doesn't read the signs there because of the navigation map.
One more question: on 17 did you enabled some bits in the long coding or adaptation because my car might be different and i am not sure if everything will be documented in VCDS. You have only the coding there

Yes, i did change som settings in 17, i can recheck what i changed
And in the 8E you can change the setting in (Coding 07) from west europe to rest of the world, that might do the trick regarding TSR

I spent a few hours last night trying to get this to work on my car. I already had ACC, and Lane assist retrofitted. My image processing module (8E) is 4G0 907 107 D.
I don't get any faults but it also doesn't work with the error "Currently Restricted". I guess the question is should I get VCP and reparemetize the existing module or just get a new H module.
