Default Alignment??

I'm about to replace all four tires (due to damage, not wear). I had a bubble on one sidewall and in a pothole strike I took a chunk of rubber from thick rubber that helps guard the rims on another.

Should I do an alignment while I'm at it (vs. drive it around and see if it "feels" like it needs an alignment?

If so, is there a special type of alignment or special equipment I should try to get?

Assuming my tire shop offers the type/equipment I need (and that they're reasonably competent at what they do), is there any reason to go to a dealer or some other specialist?

How much should a proper alignment cost (I'm in Los Angeles, if that matters)?

Thanks!!

If there is no uneven tire wear, and the car hasn't taken a hard hit (eg run into a curb), I see no reason for an alignment.

I usually like to get my car aligned about every 12-15K miles.

Quattro is a bit more expensive - I had a 5 wheel alignment - steering wheel and all 4 done at the dealer by a good mech that I trust - and it was 250. fixed all the wear issues I had with tires and tracked really nice. I might not skimp on this procedure if I were you and you are dead set on doing it. I would probably go to an Audi Dealer.

Bubble and pothole? Get the car aligned since you may or may not be able to tell the difference, The last thing you want to do is find out after ruining one or more new tires. I made the mistake once and regretted it.

Wow, $250? That seems high, I have had 4 wheel alignments on other cars and it ws around $100, why so much on Audi? My Infiniti had 4 wheels steering which to me would be more work to align.
