The current C7 is the latest version. This looks like a press release rehash of when the C7 was introduced in MY2011 (ROW) and 2012 NA region. It's too soon for Audi to be changing to the C8 chassis.

I am not sure I understand your question, but I agree that the press release is talking about the current C7. And the C7 is the seventh generation of the A6, it just wasn't called with A6 with the early models.

Thanks,but that only goes back to C4 and talks about 4 generations.

You can trace the A6 back to the Audi 100, which would bring it to the 70s and 80s, where as some would say, Audi's prime (Quattro).

Which would make the current A6 the 7th generation of Audi's mid-sized range as referenced in the article you linked. As others have pointed out, prior to the C4, the mid-range series had different monikers.

Thanks for the links and insight. I see that the A6 was at one time the Audi 5000.

Those were dark times for Audi... Hope that kind of public relations horror never comes back, since it would bite all with Audi vehicle ownership.
