a6 with 2.0t for driving schools?
Looking at a 2013 A6 with 2.0t. Wife loves it. I like the 20" wheels but it does not show a sport package and it feels a bit underpowered for driving schools at VIR. Great car but dont want to be disappointed. The 3.0t is the obvious choice but thats a bit out of our budget.
Any experience with this platform at HPDE's or schools?
thx from a newbie

Just commenting on the first part as someone who is looking for a vehicle i ruled out 2.0 as it seems for my taste a bit too underpowered and also the 3.0 comes standard with a lot of options that are options on the 2.0. Good luck.

For a track experience, why not a Porsche 996 (MY 2000-2004)? It is a sports car and you can get them at relatively low prices ( $20-30K). I guess I do not understand a 4 door sedan for a track event.

a6 2.0t for driving schools
That would be my preference for sure! but I have to find one car that satisfies our daily drive requirements and the occasional (once or twice a year) trips to VIR. I've considered the BMW 335i but the wife wants a larger car. Hence the A6. Not ideal for sure.

I'd go 3.0 with a slightly older MY if you need to.
Based on test drives, I required the 3.0 and picked up a MY 2010. While being the older body, it's still a fantastic car. Plus I figure I can leap frog into a newer one in the next couple of years.

The 2.0L may be surprising on the track. It's a lighter car with less front end weight which would reduce understeer and body roll. You would be challenged to carry more speed through the corner to offset the lack of low end torque to power out of the corners.
Your wife likes the car, it within your budget and it's going to spend the majority of time on the streets. Get the car and run what you brung at the track.

I did drive the 2013 2.0 around Watkins Glen as part of the ACNA 6-hour race event in 2013 and several there were surprised how it kept up for a four-banger in such a heavy car. i would think that with the boost in power from my puny 211 HP to 252 HP (and torque going up as well) the 2016's should be quite good.
The 2016 A6 2.0 P+ is available with a S line Sport Package that does include 19 wheels and tires plus a sport calibrated suspension. No 20" wheels except as a stand-alone option, not as part of the S Line Sport Package. I don't know if you can get both options on the same car, however.

I would say go for a 3.0T with sport package and 20" wheels (They come with PZero summer tires which make a big difference). If you are going with a 2.0, make sure its Quattro, sport suspension and 20" Pzero's. I have a 3.0T with sport and 20" wheels and coming from a G37S Coupe with full suspension, it isn't bad at all.

I've instructed for ACNA, PCA, BMWCCA and NASA. I've had my three liter out on the track - it's a heavy beast of a car. I've not driven the 2.0, but if you like it I think it would be fine on the track and might make you a better driver. Most of the people with bad driving habits that I've instructed come from higher horsepower cars. The guys driving slow cars learn what they need to do to sustain their speed through the corners so they can keep up. The lighter car will be better through the turns and easier on tires and brakes.
