Of course this still only gets you back to 3G service or maybe the 3.5 - pseudo - 4G, but not LTE, right? 3G is a technology that was first introduced almost 20 years ago, and was state of the art....TEN YEARS ago! Even if, as Audi seems to think, we should be upgrading our cars as often as our cell phones, at least they could be state of the current art....with planned easy upgrade paths to the next known technology. 5G may not be here for a little while yet, but given that the cars can last nearly forever (I still drive my '92 S4 more than anything else, while my better half just upgraded from '06 A4 to the '13 Allroad!).....well, we should expect better.

It's sad that Audi doesn't do free map update for previous model year cars.
Putting a SIM card in car is also dumb. They should just make it able to connect to wifi, so that they can connect to driver's phone.

I was at the dealer today picking up my car after having motor mounts replaced and I mentioned the upgraded modem again. I told him I can buy and wanted to know if they would install it. The service manager told me to wait til after June. He is under the impression that Audi is working on a replacement module to update those stuck under the old T-mobile 2G. Maybe its true, maybe its not. I'll be waiting til after June to be sure.

I have unlimited ($20/month) ATT LTE in my 2016 A6 and it is very slow. 1Mbps down and 3Mbps up. It is still faster than the T-Mobile 3G I have in my 2013 S5, also unlimited ($199/year)
