Default Purely opinion...... Phantom Black / Meteor Grey w/ Magma? And how useful is Adaptive Cruise really?

I don't think I can wait another two years or so for my RS5 without a new car inbetween... My B7 S4 is 3 years and a few months old now... Instead of keeping my deposit from March and waiting forever (Next spring), I've got a couple options of incoming S5's in the next couple months...... Both loaded w/ CF and w/o Adaptive Cruise...

I'm coming from Sprint Blue w/ Silver... which I loved.. but I think when the RS5 comes out, I think I'd deffinately like to get the new blue from the RS6 and silver interor..again.. so a change would be nice for a couple years.

.. I thought black with red would be good... and perhaps meteor with tan (haven't really seen any good shots of that).. but the options I've got now both include magma only..

Opinions?

I have meteor gray with Magma and love it.
EVERYONE who sees the car loves the seat color.

Default My opinion

I think the Magma/Red combo offers a unique look that you don't see too often, while making the car look more exotic and expensive.

Sounds like it'd be a good option for you, who are just desiring a change for a while.

And I wouldn't get Adaptive Cruise because I think it detracts from the look and flow of the car. Someone best described this 'upgrade' as making your S5 look like R2-D2. Which isn't a good thing...

they should just put a dummy radar-thingy on the driver side to even out the look

Default Oh that's right... GM did it right on the caddy...they replaced the logo in the grill with the radar

...I'm not saying that's perfect, but Audi... AUDI couldn't come up with anything better? I understand with the different countries and states requiring a front plate, the only was to integrate this better would be to somehow make the radar fit between the bumper and the splitter... or somehow better integrate it into the audi rings (could be cool)...

But I've got to agree, a dummy lens on the drivers side would at least make it symertrical.. although the more that goes there, the less air that can pass through those grilles (given they're functional..which I think they are on my S4, so I'd imagine).

Default Meteor over Magma is not "unique"...

...it definitely looks great, but based on the posts from this blog it appears to be the MOST COMMON color combination for the S5.

Default may not be unique to S5, but I think pretty unique overall

I was referring to the color combo in general. Not just in regards to the S5, most people don't see S5's on the road everyday anyway.

Referring to cars in general, I think
Lots of people have Black on Black
Few do Black on Red (seen a couple Beemers)
and not sure who else outside of Audi offers something like Meteor/Red

Default Meteor/Magma - slightly disagree

I don't doubt that other people have this color combo, however, with the numbers of S5's coming into the country, and this informal poll, I would say it might be more unique than you think.

It most certainly is 'unique' to anyone who sees it in person.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a5/msgs/35418.phtml</a

Default Probably more unique now as various colors are delivered/in the pipeline. But it was the default...

....color combo of the launch cars, so there were many more of them (proportionally) at the beginning of the 08' model year.

Default I would chose Phantom over Meteor...

One reason being that I think Phantom looks better on the car than Meteor, as the Black provides great contrast with the polished alum and grey plastic bits on the car as well as the LED DRLs. The other reasion being that all the S5 demos, which most US Audi dealers got back in Nov '07, are all Meteor on red. So not only is there a ton of Meteor on red cars on the road, but also that, because there are so many, the resale value of a meteor on red S5 will be lower than a comparable popular combo like phantom on red. However, if you are pretty much set on a grey/dark grey car, I would highly recomend special ordering an S5 with Daytona Grey Pearl, as long as you don't mind paying the 2500 dollar charge for a special order car. (I would also recomend sprint, as I had, and still am having, second thoughts about Phantom as I really love Sprint on the S5, especially because it makes the S5 even more noticable/attractive than the S5 already is. The issue with that though, is that you have had an Sprint car for over three years already, and, for me at least, ordering the only two well matching interior combos, pearl silver leather or black with pearl silver alcantara inserts, may prove to have longevity issues regarding maintainence, especially because of my regular natural dyed jean use. So I am pretty much set on phantom, but I may decide to switch to Sprint one day, as one of the main reasons why I ordered the S5 was for it's gawk factor, and sprint blue makes the car even more attention grabbing. But the probablem with that being that my S5 order, which I have had since early Jan, will be locked soon, unless it already is, and going down one spot in the line may tack a few months to my already long 10 month wait.)

As for active cruise, it is a cool feature (and the S5 ACC is second gen, meaning that it will continue working even in stop and go traffic, whereas the older version shut off once the car in front of you went below 30 mph), but it's expensive, will probably be used infrequently, at least by me, and it adds that awful radar camera/sensor near the left fog light, which hurts the beauty of the car. So I didn't order it, but I did order Audi Drive Select, which I highly recomend, as people who have used it stated that it was by far the most important option available, and that it truly changes the cars driving dynamic and makes for a much more enjoyable experience.

On the other hand, since you have had an S4 for 3+ years and are planning to purchase an RS5 later on, I would recomend trying a car from a different brand. For the same price, you could get a well equiped Benz C63 AMG, or if a manual is a must, than a well equiped BMW M3 or a fully loaded BMW 335 coupe. All of which are great cars, and depending on the deal you get, will hold their value as good as, or better than an S5. Not to mention that when you do get your RS5, you will be more excited with the car if you came from a BMW or Benz, than if you came from an S5. For example, my dad got a Boxster the year it came out and he wanted a Turbo, but had to wait for it's release, and would have been unable to get on at MSRP or less for another year or so. He wanted to get a standard Carrera or Carrera S to hold him over until then, but I told him that getting the Turbo would be much more exciting had he come from a non Porsche car. So he was able to find an MSRP deal on a Benz CLK 430 cab (which at that point was a hot car that comanded a 10k premium), and got it, which he kept for a little over 2 years. And once he got the Turbo, he and I were not only more excited about it than if he had came for a Carrera, but it also took him a lot longer to get bored with after years of ownership, so for one of the few times it my life, he thanked me for recomending a different car to get while waiting for the Turbo, LOL.
