A5/S5 Tinted Windows - WARNING !!!
This past weekend decided to get my windows tinted a light shade to protect the interior. Had all 5 windows done - including the windshield 35%. I told the tinters to be sure to cover the Bang & Olufsen speakers because the equipment is likely pricey if it's damaged. I can't say for sure if they listened but one thing I do know is that the angle of the rear window allows excess water (not that there should EVER be water in the inside of an Audi) to drip down right onto the top and into the fan of the Bang&Olufsen amplifier. Not sure why window tinters can't exercise a bit more common-sense and be careful when they work on modern cars with a large amount of water inside the vehicle. So the pics below show what a B&O amp looks like the day after water and soap have dripped down into it. Needless to say there is no sound -with NAV, CD, Sirius, Radio, etc until this part is replaced. Could have been worse I guess, the opposite side holds all of the fuses and electrical panels.
If you are getting your windows tinted, definitely tell them they MUST control the water that they use inside your vehicle. I don't know how long it takes to get B&O Main amps but I would expect 4-5 weeks. The fun part will be getting these guys to take ownership and pay for it. In fact, they need to refund my money for the complete job while they are at it!

You're not the first, either...
A couple people on another forum have had this happen to them...it'll likely take quite a few more before it becomes well-known enough that the average tint shop routinely avoids it.

Excellent warning. While my B&O survived, the rear deck was absolutely soaked when I got mine
... I got my windows tinted. I was very, very concerned when I got back from the shop.

I don't think we can count on the Tint Shops. We all just need to be aware to inform our Tinters.
that they need to excercise some caution when working with water in new vehicles. Maybe I can save some Audi owners the headache I'm experiencing.

From my previous exposure to the field of Mobile Electronics, speakers don't react well to
water. Our speakers use a basic paper cone design and moisture of that magnitude can warp our speakers and degrade the sound quality that they can reproduce. I looked as best as I could at the B&O drivers to see if there is any water damage. The irony is I got my windows tinted to 'protect' the interior. Glad that your car escaped damage from the tint work, they must have used some material to soak up excess water or at least divert it from the important components. I have an appointment to take my car in tomorrow to have a look. Might be an expensive bill for the Tint place.

Thought about cleaning it up but my first thought was to leave it untouched so
that in the case things got ugly, I would have real evidence to show the court of public opinion if it ever came to it. Hopefully not, but you never know.
